Dental again!
Tuesday, 31 July 2012
It's my first time going for dental without Kerwyn and today I was at dental for another tooth extraction! I had 2 extracted last last Friday and it was so so sore for a week. So this time round, I made sure I had a full lunch before I went for dental.
And, I had KOI!!It was my brother who got it for me! Yays!! :DHad subway for lunch with my brother before I went to the clinic. The thing about going to private dentist, there's always a waiting time. I waited for at least 45min before it was my turn ): The session was really quick because my dentist is very zai! Apparently most of my friends had their teeth extraction before they put on their braces? Mine is the total opposite but oh wells, I trust my dentist!3 teeth extracted! Can't wait for the gap to close up!Got a pink mask from the dentist so that my bloody gauze wouldn't be exposing! Next appointment in a month! :DKerwyn & Sheena said hello at 21:45 | Labels: Dental | 0 comments | Email ThisBlogThis!Share to XShare to FacebookShare to Pinterest

Geocaching Adventure Begins!
Monday, 30 July 2012
Having returned from my one week low key ICT, it's time to embark on our long awaited activity - Geocaching! Here's what Geocaching is about...
Geocaching is basically a treasure hunt relying on GPS coordinates. The treasures, or caches as they are known, are hidden in all sorts of places. Just go to Geocaching, and you can get started to hunt for your own cache! So here's what we did. We went to register an account on the website above. Then since both of us had Iphones, we downloaded the app on Appstore. There is a trial version called Geocaching Intro, and the full version which is available for about 13 USD. Both versions work!
We started off from Sheena's home, and the nearest Geocache was called The Last Kampong. It's somewhere near Buangkok Crescent and in the middle of some light forested area.
We got as far as we could on a car, and then proceeded on foot. Unfortunately, this proved too much of a challenge for us as we were ill equipped to deal with the foilage as well as the insects. I had 8 mosquito bites, which made it a really horrible experience! We did discover a kampong though, and it was something hardly anyone would see on the mainland of Singapore. After searching for awhile, we decided to give up and move on to the next Cache since I would much prefer an urban environment.
And so, the next Cache was about 1.6 km away (straight line distance). It's called Carpark Cache #3, hidden at the top level of a multi-storey carpark somewhere in the Serangoon North area. We deciphered the hint and focused on some key areas, however after close to 20 minutes of searching and prodding, nothing turned up.... We decided to give up once again, since we thought that Geocaching wasn't as easy, and we should come back another day when we are more well prepared.Just as I was going to turn out from the top level, I saw one last spot which we missed. I got out from the car, since I was there already. After combing the spot for about 10 seconds, I spotted something suspicious, and sure enough...I screamed really loudly in the car when Kerwyn got the cache. Since it was a micro cache, about a tube contained no more than 15 cm long, there was no pen! So if you do come for the cache, remember to BYOP, or bring your own pen!Although we didn't manage to complete the Last Kampong, the thrill from our first Geocache success was enough to make us go back for more. This signals the start of our Geocaching adventure!! :D

Om nom nom: Birthday Cake!
Friday, 27 July 2012
What's a birthday without a cake isn't it? Every year, I would bake a cake for my boy to celebrate his birthday because I can add a personal touch to it as well as customizing it to his taste because he's a chocolate lover. This makes the cake unique and one of its kind in this world! So... it's all the more special! (:
Have you eaten cakes that have a crispy layer? I really like the wafer alike layer in cakes so I decided to do it to make this chocolate cake more special.
My recipe is a combination of several ones that I got online because I can't find a recipe that fulfills what I have in mind.
An expensive cake because of cadbury chocolate and ferrero rocher!Looks so creamy before it enters the ovenTook at least an hour for the cake to bake because I did a wrong step which caused the top to crack! ): However, the cake tasted really good. My mum commented that this is a higher standard cake than the ones I usually make. My brother loved it! My boy wanted more after just eating one mouth! Hee~Here's the recipe, enjoy!Kerwyn & Sheena said hello at 12:15 | Labels: baking | 0 comments | Email ThisBlogThis!Share to XShare to FacebookShare to Pinterest

Prive Cafe: Brunch by the water's edge!
Tuesday, 24 July 2012
Every once in a while, my primary school mates would meet up for a gathering over a hearty meal. We've been to several nice cafes/restaurants such as The Merry Men, Pepperoni Pizzeria, Timbre, Strictly Pancakes with them. This time round, it's Prive Cafe at Keppel Bay!
Shades for a sunny day!View along the way is great, you've got to drive over a short bridge in order to reach Keppel Bay where Prive cafe is located. At the entranceIt's a marina! Waterfront living in Singapore, the maximum atas-nessThere's indoor air-conditioned seating as well as outdoors. If you do make reservations for a small group, try to get indoors. If you're a large group like us, hopefully you wouldn't get seats in the sun. If you do, you could try getting them to change your table just like we did.
Popular dishes at the cafe include the award-winning Eggs Benedicts, Fluffy Pancakes, Wraps, Wagyu Burgers and Sticky Date Pudding.
As I just had 2 teeth extracted less than 24 hours before I had this brunch, my gums were feeling really sore. Hence I ordered the Homemade Pancakes ($13)! What I loved most about the pancakes is that it's really really soft and fluffy! The whipped cream (not those cheapo kind) matched really well with the pancakes!
Heard their Eggs Benedict ($16) is really good so I decided to give it a go. It's not everyday that I try poached eggs so I couldn't really judge on the texture. However, my friends did comment that the insides weren't runny enough. The bacon and the leg ham went really well with the Hollandaise sauce on top of the English muffins, so nothing to complain there. Perhaps I would go experience some good poached eggs before returning here again.
Did you know...
3-6pm is the best time of the day, especially when sliced cakes are 50% off with evert TWG tea or coffee ordered! So, come on down from Mondays to Fridays to have your cake!
Couple shot with the funky building at the back - Reflections @ Keppel BayAnnnddddd finally a group shot to commemorate the day when people actually woke up early enough to have brunch! It's been a long time together, and our topics have progressed to stuff like housing, financial planning, and of course marriage! The first red letter bomb should be landing soon... So one day, I saw the giveaway ad on Nuffnang, and got my boy to write up about a heroine! And guess what! We got the tickets to the gala premiere screening of Disney's new movie Brave. Thanks Nuffnang!
The event was held at the Cathay. It was our first Nuffnang event so we were kind of nervous. But it was quite simple. We just had to go to level 5 where there was a booth, collect our tickets and voila!
There were some 'Brave' games arranged for us at the first level, so we went down to check it out.
We were kind of worried it would be really embarrassing games and stuff, and were quite relieved that it was just Wii archery. There was even a nice booth where we could take a "neoprint", an instant photo which gave us a choice of 2 different backgrounds!
Aren't the 4 boys cute?An awesome performance by the man holding the bagpipe! Really requires lots of lung capacity to blow that!
Since we were there already, we might as well try out the Wii archery. Since there was only one station left which was Expert level, we had no other choice. After the staff gave a brief introduction, I tried my hand at it. Thinking it was real archery I actually pulled the "bow" back, which kind of threw my Wii aim off. After a few tries we finally got the hang of it!
I tried it too but the expert level was really too tough for me hence I kept missing the shots! But oh well, I still enjoyed it very much because I haven't played wii for so long! (:
And finally, it's time for the movie!
In 'Brave', set in the highlands of the 10th century Scotland (hence explaining the bagpipe performance), shows how Princess Merida who is determined to make her own path in life, defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Granted one wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse.
Be sure to discover the true meaning of bravery on 8 August 2012! Here's the trailer, enjoy...

Food for Thought
Sunday, 22 July 2012
Settled for dinner at Food for Thought and the place was really crowded. There was a sign saying that they're full house and the waiting time was 40 min! So, do make sure you make your reservations in advance!Situated just beside the NTUC Trade Union house, parking is no problem as you can either park by the roadside, or at NTUC Trade Union house, or at Hotel Royal Queens ($3 per entry after 5pm).The place has a modern, cozy feel to it. Some artificial flower pots dangle from the ceiling and they have a nice lighting feature with lightbulbs inside glass bottles suspended from the ceiling. Apparently the philosophy for Food for Thought is about the Earth and the people, so they're going big on recycling as well as helping the poor. A portion of their profits go to feeding the starving! $20 meal helps to feed a person for a month, so it's all for a good cause!I like how the plants are hanging down! And the minimalistic clock is so cool! Just a little confusing when the shadow forms a third hand...This is one of the visions of Food for Thought! Part of the earnings will be donated to world vision. Isn't it great that you can enjoy your meal and do a good deed at the same time? (:
I got Basil Almond Pesto Chicken Linguine ($14) with additional pasta at $2. It was well worth it with the extra pasta and I had no problems finishing it because it was so tasty. The chicken bits were nothing special. But the pesto and the sauce were the highlights of this dish. Usually I require some cheese to go along with my pasta but definitely no in this case as the herbs' flavour was good on its own. I'll be back to try other pastas!
Pepper Thyme flavoured Fries - Personally I prefer shoe string fries as there is more surface area for seasonings to get stuck to it, and it wouldn't be too potato-ish. The servings were really generous though, and it wouldn't be a problem if 4 people decided to share it as sides. We did have problems finishing it as we didn't expect the portion to be so large. However the thyme and pepper made it quite tasty. If they offered fries in smaller cuts it would be perfect.
Potato Gratin with Broccoli - The sauce is really nice, but it would be better if it was macaroni instead. Its like overload of potatoes since we had fries too. Personally, I prefer Delifrance's potato gratin as there's less potatoes and more cheese.
Ending off with our new couple tee from BKK, isn't it cute? Mr & Mrs! :D
Food for thought is definitely a great place for some casual dining and gathering with friends. In fact, you can continue the night by popping over to Switch, an Timbre initiative which features a bi-lingual line up for songs. Be sure to check these places out!

Picnic at Henderson Waves, Hort Park
Saturday, 21 July 2012
Since my boy has been wanting to go on picnics, I planned one for him on his birthday! This time it's not the conventional picnic, but a high one, at a place where joggers frequent. Got it yet? Yeaps it's at Henderson waves!
A huge bridge which links Telok Blangah park to Mount Faber park, it's a pity I haven't been here earlier. Even though the white parts of the bridge are slightly covered in moss, the bridge is well maintained overall, which gives me a sense of security when I'm walking on the planks 70 plus metres above sea level.
The number one thing you must bring on picnics - Off! It really keeps the creepy crawlies away and prevents bites. Well at least I'm bite free after a whole day of trekking!
We parked our car at Carpark 1 and walked a slope up before we arrived at Henderson Waves.
I am the carrier. Food in one hand, picnic mat in the other. The walk up is a little winding and takes about 5 to 8 minutes depending on your walking pace.Breathtaking view from Hendersons BridgeAs we visited the place on a Monday, it was really deserted. At least, we get to enjoy a peaceful picnic compared to going places like Barrage. She was pretty worried about wild monkeys though, after spotting signs which warned people about monkeys snatching food and the correct course of action to take.
Our barang barang includes a picnic map, picnic basket and an umbrella (weather wasn't looking good). The entire bridge doesn't have shelter from the rain so remember your wet weather plan!If anyone knows where to get those woven picnic basket, do tell us!Food that I prepared:
1) Papaya - I chilled it beforehand so it was still a lil cold. Helps to cool us down in SG's hot weather (:
2) Crepe roll - I find it hard to prepare these? The crepe breaks so easily?! I don't really know how people are able to make jade rolls using crepes. Anyways, I added lettuce, tomatoes, chicken strips and honey mustard before rolling them up! Really yummy! (:3) Potato Cheese Pancakes - I created these on my own, it's really simple to prepare. If I had more time, I would add water chestnuts and minced meat! My boy's fav! (: Yes I absolutely love these pancakes of happiness. Ask her for the recipe if you are interested!4) Egg Mayo + Bacon Croissant - Adapted from Delifrance! Simplest dish to prepare for picnics! :DWhat's a sandwich without honey mustard? Our favourite topping from Subway must definitely accompany us on picnics. On our way to Hort park via the forest walk. Since it was almost a 30 min walk to finish the entire length of Telok Blangah Park, we shifted the car to carpark 3, then walked down to the forest walk which leads to Hort park. Unfortunately, the Earth trail is closed due to soil stabilization so we couldn't check it out.
We finally reached after 20 minutes! We took longer because we kept spotting weird birds (any bird which was not a mynah, crow or sparrow was classified as weird) as well as many floral features such as the saga tree. The top picture is of a flower planted outside Hort park and the other picture is my boy at the front pond the park!
Hort park is a joint effort of various horticulturists to bring greenery in our garden city to a new level. There are many different gardens within, each with its own style of design and flowers respectively. For example there's the Balinese garden, the Peranakan garden etc. Do check it out if you need some inspiration.
They also have a fruits garden where they showcase different kinds of edible plants and crops. Check out the top picture of a bomb looking eggplant! Actually we just assume its an eggplant haha...
As mentioned, Hort park is a combined effort to promote greenery. At the end of the park lies several Glass Houses which have different climates simulated. The data acquired from these glass houses actually go into building the conservatories which we just visited at Gardens by the Bay! You can see the effort put into the research to find out proper maintenance methods of these plants, so do treasure and appreciate when you visit Gardens alright? After spending half a day in nature, we then popped by Plaza Singapura for the Amazing Spider Man! Since we're probably the later ones catching the movie, we shan't write a review about the movie. It was just average anyways. BUT! Do check back for where we went for our dinner!Kerwyn & Sheena said hello at 12:00 | Labels: Activities, Outdoor, Paktor | 0 comments | Email ThisBlogThis!Share to XShare to FacebookShare to Pinterest
