  1. We had a great time at Tanjong Pagar Station, but we wanted more, that is to take pictures on the tracks themselves! There are two spots in Singapore which have the signature railway bridge, and we headed down to Sunset Way first, where the bridge spans a canal. 
    At Sunset Way we found this Western cafe - Rocky's Pizza! A neighbourhood pizza outlet located in Clementi, with some homely decor to boot. There wasn't anybody as it was till a weekday, so we had a quiet time together!
    Alfredo - We hardly eat Alfredo as we prefer the egg taste in carbonara. The serving is pretty generous, at $9.50, it could fill a growling stomach of a guy! So Kerwyn had no problems finishing it.
    We didn't have problems with the pasta, but the pizza is HUGE. At 12 inches, it could easily feed a couple. We didn't expect the serving of the pasta to be so large, hence we had trouble with the pizza. However, the pizza trumps the pasta. It's a thin crust pizza, which is a prerequisite for us as we don't really like Pizza Hut style crusts. But it isn't so thin that you feel like you're eating a biscuit. The toppings were really generous too. Just imagine the overall thickness of a slice is comparable to a Pizza Hut pizza, but most of it is topping instead. At 22.90, it isn't the cheapest pizza out there, but it's definitely value for money. If there was anything to make us return to Rocky's, it would be their pizza.

    I was really scared because the bridge was over the canal and it's really high. I kept whining on how scared I was and was really on the verge of giving up... but we saw how a bunch of children just crossed the bridge so normally that I didn't wanna turn back. Grabbing on tightly to Kerwyn's hands, we finally crossed the bridge after a good 10 min struggle! Poor boy got red marks on his wrists!

     If you want to visit this place, there is an easier route instead of parking at Sunset Way then walking.
    The route in red is the one we took. You can park around 108/109 area, and walk over. However, this route involve scaling a steep slope, and having to squeeze into a small hole. An alternative route (which we found when we crossed and exited), is parking at block 305 area opposite the bank. From here, you can just take a path onto the tracks, and the walk northeast towards the bridge. Here a nice door is open for you to walk onto the bridge.

    We're finally here at our final stop! Saw so many people visiting this place on facebook but we've never been here before!! Happy couple camwhoring under the sun!

     This is a much more accessible, and it should be, since it is preserved as a heritage site. You can just drive along Dunearn road and turn into Rifle Range road, and you'll be right next to the bridge. Easy peasy compared to the bridge at Sunset Way.

  2. Every once in a while, my primary school mates would meet up for a gathering over a hearty meal. We've been to several nice cafes/restaurants such as The Merry Men, Pepperoni Pizzeria, Timbre, Strictly Pancakes with them. This time round, it's Prive Cafe at Keppel Bay!

    View along the way is great, you've got to drive over a short bridge in order to reach Keppel Bay where Prive cafe is located.

    There's indoor air-conditioned seating as well as outdoors. If you do make reservations for a small group, try to get indoors. If you're a large group like us, hopefully you wouldn't get seats in the sun. If you do, you could try getting them to change your table just like we did.
    Popular dishes at the cafe include the award-winning Eggs Benedicts, Fluffy Pancakes, Wraps, Wagyu Burgers and Sticky Date Pudding.
    As I just had 2 teeth extracted less than 24 hours before I had this brunch, my gums were feeling really sore. Hence I ordered the Homemade Pancakes ($13)! What I loved most about the pancakes is that it's really really soft and fluffy! The whipped cream (not those cheapo kind) matched really well with the pancakes!
    Heard their Eggs Benedict ($16) is really good so I decided to give it a go. It's not everyday that I try poached eggs so I couldn't really judge on the texture. However, my friends did comment that the insides weren't runny enough. The bacon and the leg ham went really well with the Hollandaise sauce on top of the English muffins, so nothing to complain there. Perhaps I would go experience some good poached eggs before returning here again.
    Did you know...
    3-6pm is the best time of the day, especially when sliced cakes are 50% off with evert TWG tea or coffee ordered! So, come on down from Mondays to Fridays to have your cake!

    Annnddddd finally a group shot to commemorate the day when people actually woke up early enough to have brunch! It's been a long time together, and our topics have progressed to stuff like housing, financial planning, and of course marriage! The first red letter bomb should be landing soon... (:

  3. Food for Thought

    Settled for dinner at Food for Thought and the place was really crowded. There was a sign saying that they're full house and the waiting time was 40 min! So, do make sure you make your reservations in advance!

    Situated just beside the NTUC Trade Union house, parking is no problem as you can either park by the roadside, or at NTUC Trade Union house, or at Hotel Royal Queens ($3 per entry after 5pm).
    The place has a modern, cozy feel to it. Some artificial flower pots dangle from the ceiling and they have a nice lighting feature with lightbulbs inside glass bottles suspended from the ceiling. Apparently the philosophy for Food for Thought is about the Earth and the people, so they're going big on recycling as well as helping the poor. A portion of their profits go to feeding the starving! $20 meal helps to feed a person for a month, so it's all for a good cause!
    I like how the plants are hanging down! And the minimalistic clock is so cool! Just a little confusing when the shadow forms a third hand...
    This is one of the visions of Food for Thought! Part of the earnings will be donated to world vision. Isn't it great that you can enjoy your meal and do a good deed at the same time? (:
    I got Basil Almond Pesto Chicken Linguine ($14) with additional pasta at $2. It was well worth it with the extra pasta and I had no problems finishing it because it was so tasty. The chicken bits were nothing special. But the pesto and the sauce were the highlights of this dish. Usually I require some cheese to go along with my pasta but definitely no in this case as the herbs' flavour was good on its own. I'll be back to try other pastas! 
    Pepper Thyme flavoured Fries - Personally I prefer shoe string fries as there is more surface area for seasonings to get stuck to it, and it wouldn't be too potato-ish. The servings were really generous though, and it wouldn't be a problem if 4 people decided to share it as sides. We did have problems finishing it as we didn't expect the portion to be so large. However the thyme and pepper made it quite tasty. If they offered fries in smaller cuts it would be perfect.
    Potato Gratin with Broccoli - The sauce is really nice, but it would be better if it was macaroni instead. Its like overload of potatoes since we had fries too. Personally, I prefer Delifrance's potato gratin as there's less potatoes and more cheese.
    Ending off with our new couple tee from BKK, isn't it cute? Mr & Mrs! :D 
    Food for thought is definitely a great place for some casual dining and gathering with friends. In fact, you can continue the night by popping over to Switch, an Timbre initiative which features a bi-lingual line up for songs. Be sure to check these places out!

  4. Rider's Cafe: Brunch haven

    It was a beautiful Sunday on my birthday eve, and we decided to have brunch together at a fantastic place called Riders Cafe. 
    Situated in the Bukit Timah area, it's a quaint place with limited seating capacity so remember to make reservations a week in advance especially if you want to go on weekends!

    I had Poached Eggs with Tomatoes, Cream Corn Polenta, Portobello and Sourdough. The poached eggs were too cooked ): It's really a simple breakfast. It's my first time having polenta (looks like omelette from the first look) and I really like it. However, it isn't very filling. So order this if you're going for something light!

    I went for Riders Burger with Rocket, Brie, Relish, Bacon & Seasoned Fries. How can one be at Riders Cafe without trying out their burger right? I opted for medium well beef, yes there is beef. The burger tasted pretty good with the various "fillings". The portion was generally quite large and definitely more than enough for the average person. 

    My Dad went for Marinated Portobello and Halloumi Burger with Caramelized Onions, Cos and Fries, my Mum went for Almond Granola Crusted Fried Chicken with creamy Polenta & Buttered Spinach. I didn't get to try the Halloumi burger but I did manage to sneak a few slices of the crusted fried chicken. It's totally awesome the way the taste hits your tastebuds. You can't really taste the almond but you know it's the crunchy stuff on the chicken. It definitely doesn't need extra seasoning, and even though it's a little salty on its own (my Mum joked about having it to go with a bowl of rice), it's nicely matched with the Polenta and buttered spinach.

  5. Parco Caffe: Birthday Dinner

    After our visit to Gardens by the Bay, we popped right down Parco Caffe! I made an online reservation a week before the actual day and got an email to confirm the reservation the following day!
    Parco Caffe is nestled in idyllic Raeburn Park, behind the former Tanjong Pagar railway station. Also, it is brought to you by the very same team behind Spruce!! It is located 10 min away from Gardens by the Bay. The nearest MRT station is Harbourfront and there are 8 buses from there to this place!
    If you drive, there's even complimentary ticket for you handed over by the staff. Just be sure to let them know you drove, but most probably they would ask. One up for service.
     WOW right? Love the serenity of this place!
    The place has a tasteful decor as well as great use of space. It just feels different from other cafes when you walk in.

    ‘Parco’ (‘park’ in Italian) is the  theme of the restaurant and you can see why. There is extensive green foliage and three indoor al-fresco areas, allowing guests to enjoy an “outdoor” experience in indoor comfort. There is also a separated room indoors which is a private area if you wish to arrange a gathering for friends. The crowd that frequents here also usually prefers a quiet setting, so you can expect a peaceful dining experience. Plus point for couples!

    The menu offers both classic Italian as well as Asian food to give a balance. It's a great blend and definitely offers something for everyone. 
    My boy had Mojito - his fav while I tried Bellini. Bellini originated in Venice and is a cocktail made up of champagne as well as peach liquor! The Mojito is different from the ones I had as there isn't a layer of mint leaves on the bottom layer.
    Minestrone soup as starters: Generous amounts of vegetables making the soup really rich! More so than the various Minestrone soups we have had. There's also pesto added which adds a tangy flavour to it.
    Perfect combination with these breads! The breads were warm and are delicious on it's own! I've never eaten such nice breads before! YUMMY! We weren't sure if the bread came with the soup or is just a complimentary starter, but it definitely went down well with the soup. Not to be missed!
    Our usual: Carbonara! Not the best we've eaten but it's above average. Cream was filled with bacon taste. A lil salty and we would prefer it to have a stronger egg taste. The sauce wasn't overpowering and we didn't get sick of it at all. I wish I could prepare carbonara like these...
    We both felt that the calzone looked like a huge curry puff! Haha. Matched with their own special sauce. The sauce was tomato-ish and provided a good complimenting taste to the calzone. Salad was well tossed, with dressing which resembled vinegar. Really got to figure out what is this vinegar which tastes so good. The calzone had pork sausages and Parma ham which was quite good but a little heavy in portion for us. I would be interested to try the various other pizzas they have, should be a pleasant surprise too!
     Lied to my boy that the calzone was his birthday cake because I didn't wanna have any desserts!
    In actual fact, I've secretly ordered his fav panna cotta! :D
    Panna Cotta is a must-order dish for his birthday celebrations, at least, I try to find a place which has it as much as possible. This is my fav one so far because it's mango flavoured! Really soft and you won't get sick of it! (:

    The first time I had Panna Cotta was at the Spruce, which was really good, and ever since Smallhello has been questing to find Panna Cottas for me. This Panna Cotta was no doubt tasty but a little dry in texture. I'm not a guru myself and I know Panna Cottas are prepared in various styles, so probably this is one of the drier ones. I still love it though! 
    My birthday present for this boy who officially turned 24 on 16 July 2012! :D 
    Duty-free watches are really cheap by the way. You can get a good $20 cheaper when you purchase them at DFS! I got his Lacoste watch when we're coming back from BKK as I was flipping through the magazine on the plane. Was attracted by the colours and thought my boy would look really good with it since he's not like very fair nor very tanned! :P 


    Think the watch really looks awesome, would do a review on it when I finally get to use it! But for now..
    We would definitely return to Parco Caffe for several reasons:
    1) It is a great place for couples, gatherings or even business meetings (they have free wifi). 
    2) The staff were really friendly! Chatted with us the moment with stepped into the restaurant. As one of the staff who served us was new, he told us in advance that he's unsure with the details of the menu. It's quite a good habit isn't it? At least you don't have to keep your customers waiting by 'eee.. err..'
    3) Brought us our cocktails as we decide on our mains. 
    4) Dishes came in the order of courses. Our carbonara came in a few moments after we finished our soup.
    5) Peaceful environment with minimal disruptions
    6) There's CITIBANK discount! 10%!
    Lastly, I would like to thank the manager(?) for his help for making the surprise possible! He's really good in acting! He came to our table and asked us if we wanted any desserts and I told him no. Around 5 minutes later, another staff was blocking him while he lit up the candle and tada!!! The panna cotta was presented! In addition, it was on-the-house! Thank you so much!!
