  1. We're still working on our post about our Europe travel, so meanwhile, here's an update on our recent trip to Adventure Cove and S.E.A. Aquarium!
Acting cool at Harbourfront MRT! With our new Lacoste shades!

We have been wanting to visit the Adventure Cove ever since its opening last year, but due to our busy schedule, we have been postponing it! ): BUT... the time has finally came for us to visit it because Kerwyn's cousin was planning a family outing to the Adventure Cove! ^^ As Kerwyn is having his internship, we had to go on a weekend. His family accommodated even though they knew there would be a crowd! Happy family~!! :D
No family photo, sadly, because we were rushing to get a cabana. There's only 5 cabanas available for rent ($128) and its on a first come first serve basis. We didn't manage to get 1 because it was really crowded, but we managed to get a cabana that was for free. The difference between the rented one and the free one is that, it includes a personal standing shower, ceiling fan, water bottles, towels and food vouchers. We thought that the free one was good enough since we won't be staying there most of the time. If you're worrying about queuing for the toilet to get a shower, it was quite a short wait, at most 10 minutes for both men and women.
Kerwyn taking the floats for his younger cousins!

Got told off by an ang moh that the floats were not supposed to be hogged. Thought about it for awhile and then agreed. Anyways there were no lack of floats so no worries!
Taking some shade before we're out to play!

We do not own a waterproof camera, so there wont be any photos about the rides we took. There is an area for you to place your goggles and it isn safe to place your camera there. Goggles aren't necessary because you won't be able to bring it with you through the rides. Here's a quick review on some of the rides we took.
Dueling Racer - Very safe for children. My 5 year old cousin took it without a single scream when my dearest girlfriend screamed her way down. As for me, I never liked taking such rides, I didn't take it when we went Sunway Lagoon. Unlike Sunway Lagoon, the mat provided by Adventure Cove has handles so I can grip on tight to it without worrying... So... I agreed on taking the ride! :D My aunt took a video of us down the ride!

Some of the rides are side by side, e.g. Pipeline Plunge & Tidal Twister, so there's 2 queues on the same stairway which is a lil confusing because we do not know which is more fun? No worries about odd numbers because you can take the rides alone. For us, the best ride was the Riptide Rocket! Longest waiting time! We queued for a good one hour! The ride lasts about 30s which brings you into tunnel and out with a sudden plunge and climbs.

If you're really small sized like Sheena is, make sure to be in a firm position, else your neck would take a brunt of the shocks! She came out a bit stiff necked which hurt for a day or two...
Marine life at the Rainbow Reef

I love the Rainbow Reef - best snorkelling experience I ever had! Haha. Sounds stupid, but yeah, because I have really bad motion sickness, the currents in the sea would always get me seasick when I'm snorkelling. Rainbow Reef provides you with the snorkelling mask and life jacket which allows you to enjoy the snorkelling experience in peace.
We started at 10am, and left the place at around 4+pm. Had lunch inside Adventure Cove which costs us less than $10 per pax. They have vegetarian briyani, so no issues for the vegetarians! :D
We could have stayed longer, but because we bought the tickets to the S.E.A Aquarium which closes at 7pm. There was a queue to enter the aquarium... Thankfully the queue moved faster than the queues at Adventure Cove (:
     Lots of interesting marine life!
It's sort of like underwater world, but with more stuff and fish. Sheena points at some sharks swimming overhead while we squeeze past the crowd to the main exhibits.

I didn't dare to touch the starfish!

They've got a huge selection of tanks. Seahorses, sea jellies, even shark egg sacs were being showcased! It's really quite a collection, and an eye opener for those who are keen to know more about marine life.

    Watch the dolphins!
As most of you probably know by now, the aquarium is housing some dolphins. While the stories we hear in the media did make my heart wrench a little when I saw these beautiful creatures swim around in captivity, it was still something that we both appreciated a lot.

In fact, the dolphins are really pretty friendly and they kept swimming up to the swimming glass for photo opportunities! You can see one almost smiling in the lower pic!

We love to imitate the marine life! Who looks more like it? Hee...
The huge huge viewing tank! It might be the largest one in the world if my memory serves me correctly. There's no harm just taking a seat, and just watch the fishes school and swim past. They've got manta rays and an awesome habitat just set out for one to admire!

Random tank where the fish was clustered in a fish "ball", weird behaviour!
    Colourful corals!
Seeing all these marine tanks makes a former tank owner like me a bit "gian", but I guess I'll still stick to freshwater!
During our first year anniversary, we took a picture with a shark at Underwater World! 3 years later...
We're doing it with the real one! On a side note, I think we look better now! Hurhur...
Looks like a nurse shark, but there wasn't any writeup anywhere near except about lemon sharks.. but I don't remember lemon sharks looking like that... ANYWAYS the shark was resting at the bottom with a couple of its friends. It seemed to be sleeping soundly so I decided to snap a picture with it! This qualifies as my favourite shark due to its default "sleepalike" position.

And that brings us to the end of S.E.A aquarium and our adventure cove tour! Tickets to both these attractions are priced at $59 for a one day pass to both. For just S.E.A it would be $33 for both peak and non peak, while Adventure Cove costs $29 for non peak and $33 for peak. If you have a good idea how to spend your day, go for the package! Even though the aquarium closes at 7 pm, we stayed well after 7, almost until 730, although there was a growing stress to quickly finish the attractions. So do come down to S.E.A and Adventure Cove for a great day of activities!

  2. MONSTERS UNIVERSITY!!!

    Thursday, 6 June 2013

Yay! Monsters University movie is coming out in exactly 2 weeks time! Really excited about it!!! I told Kerwyn that this is going to our 4th anniversary movie the moment I saw the trailer!

Why I'm excited? Firstly, I enjoyed watching Monsters Inc and Monsters University is all about how it started before Mike & Sulley joined the incorporated. Its so similar to the real world isn it? People of the same interest come together and they work towards their similar goal together. Secondly, I officially ended my student life just weeks ago, so its high time to relieve my college life! Those days of making new friends, joining new clubs, exploring the canteen... ^^ Lastly, there's always something to learn from Disney movies and I wonder what it is going to be this time round! :D

Well I'm still in my final year in university, so it would be easier to draw comparisons with Monsters University! Pixar makes really awesome animated movies, and Monsters Inc didn't disappoint, I'm pretty sure Monsters University would be a huge huge hit. Furthermore, I just love how Sulley makes fun of Mike and their interactions. It's always interesting to catch the prequel to a good movie, as you get to see the backgrounds of the characters you grow to like. Well it's a must watch for me, and so should everybody else, young or old!

Catch Disney•Pixar’s “Monsters University”in Singapore cinemas this 20 June 2013! For more updates, like the Official Walt Disney Studios Singapore Facebook Page, follow @disneystudiosSG and subscribe to the Official Disney Studios Singapore YouTube Channel!'

P.S. To find out if you are eligible for studies at Monsters University, you can also participate in the Monsters Aptitude Test (M.A.T.) on the Facebook page & stand to win exclusive premiums!

  3. Our London breakfast at the Golden Arches near our hotel

"London bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down..."

A nursery song we're all familiar with! In order to see the famed London bridge, one of the best ways would be taking a leisurely cruise down the river Thames - and we did just that!

We booked our cruise beforehand from City Cruises. They have lunch and dinner cruises, but the most budget friendly option would be their Sightseeing cruise. The online price for the River Red Rover is 15.30 pounds while the pier price is 17 pounds, so you make a saving of 1.70 per pax if you book online!

If you aren't sure of the route to plan, choose the Red River Rover as it would allow you to hop on and off freely, whereas the other option offers directional travel which imposes more constraints. So after having our breakfast, we tubed down to Westminster, where you can reach the pier easily by walking. After boarding, the ferry departed to pick up more passengers at the London eye just across the river.

We had a wonderful guide, who was by no means an official guide, but just a boatman who was very familiar with the sights on the river. One amusing act which he pulled was to ask us to smile and wave at people on bridges as we passed under it, as if they waved back we would have 7 years of good luck! No wonder we always see people on ferries waving!
An ex navy vessel serving as a small museum
A view of Westminster as we departed
At last, the famous tower bridge! If you were to make a search for the London bridge, you would find nothing but a modernized bridge as boring as ever. The actual medieval looking bridge is actually named Tower Bridge, situated beside the Tower of London.

We decided to take some pictures here first, but we didn't disembark, as we wanted to take the cruise all the way to the end, to Greenwich!

Greenwich, with the Meridian Line where longitude is zero, and where you can actually see the line dividing time zones! Before we got to the line, we had to walk through a beautiful park. The right map shows the Greenwich park which we had the pleasure of strolling through before reaching the observatory with the famed line.

It's this park where we saw tons of people walking their dogs! It was a nice sunny weather, even though it was during winter, you could see how much the dogs and their owners were enjoying their walk in the park. The cool weather also let the dogs have really nice coats and we saw some nice golden retrievers! Makes you just want to move here hee...

Finally, the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. Since it has a rich history in the development of the concept of time, how else better to showcase the welcoming piece than an old 24 hour clock?

As mentioned, this place was used by luminaries such as John Flamsteed in his work on time as well as stellar tables. Of course you will spot a lot of nifty little gadgets which would have excited any engineer, scientist back in the day. Even today, these clocks still don't cease to amaze, at least for me.

Well I'm not much of a history person so I tried to catch whatever Kerwyn recalls or reads on the write ups posted everywhere. One piece that caught my eye was this dolphin sundial! The tips of the fins cast a shadow and the contact point between the two points shows the time of the day! It's so nicely designed! Love the way the dolphins seem to resemble a heart shape.

We spotted our own red dot's longitude!
There was a queue to take photo at this significant spot that divides the two timezones. Being very Asians, we took a heart shot and the caucasians went... AWWW~ teehee... we got a lil shy but who cares? Love this photo alot :D
Greenwich is really a beautiful place. Love how it has a huge park where dogs can run freely! We'll miss the dogs!

By the time we had completed Greenwich, it was almost dusk as the days get really short in winter. Since the London Tower tour was already closed for the day for a private event, we decided to take the ferry all the way back, and move to our next destination - St Paul's Cathedral.

After the 284 steps in Paris, we arrived at another challenge that required us to walk 271 steps!!! What's 271 steps when we have conquered 284 steps right? But... the steps here are more irregular and the space available is more narrow... For a student price of 14 pounds bought on the spot, we got to climb to the Whispering Gallery first, where we tried out the acoustics but failed miserably.. next, we climbed up further to the Golden Gallery.

This was at the very top of the dome, where we caught a breathtaking view of London! It's really amazing how such an old structure can still command such a view...
Spot the London eye in the right picture!

Great view of the River Thames

With that, we completed our short but fruitful tour of London. While it may not be the most romantic city in Europe, London has its own charms which draws so many people from all over the world. Most of all, we get to speak English comfortably! While many of us may take it for granted, the English language can be scarce in certain parts of Europe.

Next up, we fly to Italy, and do as the Romans do!
